Laser and CNC software trusts DXF the way design software trusts SVG — and converting between them is where most cutting jobs start. This tool produces R12 ASCII DXF: the oldest, plainest flavour of the format, read by LightBurn, Glowforge, xTool Creative Space, RDWorks and virtually every CAM front-end without an import warning.

The fast path is straighter than you expect: drop a PNG or JPG logo here, press Convert, then hit the DXF button — every traced shape leaves as a closed polyline on a layer named after its colour, so your cut / score / engrave assignments survive the trip. If you already have an SVG from a designer, the FAQ below tells you honestly what this tool can and cannot do with it.

Can I upload an SVG file directly?

No — this tool starts from a raster image (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP). If your SVG came from a designer, the cleanest free route is Inkscape: open the SVG, Save As → DXF. If what you have is a logo or artwork to be cut, convert it here and download DXF in the same session.

Which DXF version does it write?

R12 ASCII — the simplest and oldest flavour, deliberately. Newer versions add features cutting software ignores, while R12 imports cleanly everywhere, which is exactly what you want when the laser table must not argue with the file.

Are layers preserved in the DXF?

Yes. Every traced colour becomes its own DXF layer, named after its hex value. Your cut / score / engrave assignments per colour carry over into LightBurn or any other front-end.

Will the DXF cut or engrave on my machine?

That assignment happens in your laser software, not in the file. Closed outlines usually become cut or score lines, filled areas become engraves — the layers arrive separated so you can assign each one.

Scales without limits

Why is this tool different?

🛡️ On-device image processing

Your image is processed locally in your browser via WebAssembly and is not uploaded for vectorization.

⚙️ Professional engine

The same tracing technology used in advanced design tools, running right in your browser with nothing to install.

✍️ Great with lettering

Excellent results with logos and calligraphy — including Arabic script — every stroke traced as clean, precise paths.

∞ Actually free

No signup, no conversion limits, no watermark — forever.

In short

12pixa converts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP images into SVG vector files.

The tracing engine runs entirely inside the browser, so images are never uploaded to a server.

It is free and unlimited: no account, no watermark, and no cap on conversions, including commercial use.

Output is standard SVG that opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and cutting software such as Cricut Design Space.

Logos, lettering and line art give the best results; photographs become flat, poster-like art rather than an identical copy.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. You can go offline after the page loads and the tool keeps working normally.

What’s the difference between SVG and a regular image?

An SVG is a vector: scale it to any size — a billboard or a business card — with zero quality loss, and edit its colors and paths in design apps like Illustrator.

Does it work with Arabic calligraphy?

Yes, beautifully — letters, diacritics and ornaments are traced as precise, editable paths ready for print at any size.

Do photos convert into an identical vector?

Realistic photos become a flat poster-art style — no technology in the world turns a photo into an identical vector, because vectors are by nature color regions and paths.

How is this different from Vector Magic?

Vector Magic is paid and uploads your file to its servers. 12pixa is free, unlimited, and the tracing engine runs inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device. Quality is close but not identical — try both on the same image and compare.

Does it really work offline?

After the conversion engine has loaded, vectorization can continue locally in your browser without uploading your image.

What image resolution should I use?

Sharper is better. Aim for at least 1000px on the longest side, with clean edges and a plain background. Heavily compressed or tiny images make the tracer follow compression noise instead of real edges, which produces jagged paths.

Why is my SVG file bigger than the original image?

Because each shape is stored as a mathematical path. Photos and gradients produce thousands of paths. For a smaller file, use the Simplified preset or lower Detail level to reduce the number of colour regions and paths.

Can I edit the colors before downloading?

Yes. After converting, the palette lists every color layer. Click a swatch to recolour it — shading is preserved — or hide a layer to drop it entirely, such as removing a background before export.

Can I use the SVG files for Cricut or laser cutting?

Yes. The output is standard SVG that imports into Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, and laser software. Use the Logo / Text preset for the cleanest cut paths, and remove the background layer first.

Do I own the converted files? Is there a watermark?

12pixa adds no watermark or usage restrictions to the generated SVG. Your right to use the result depends on the rights you hold in the source image.

Which file formats can I convert?

PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP. You can also paste an image directly with Ctrl+V. Output is always SVG, which opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and any modern browser.
