Choose an image to start — a clear, high-resolution source works best.

Convert raster images into true vector paths without installing anything. Raster means a grid of pixels — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP. Vector means shapes described mathematically. The tracing engine groups neighbouring pixels into colour regions, finds the boundary of each region, then fits curves along those boundaries.

That distinction matters the moment output leaves the screen. A plotter, a laser, a vinyl cutter or a CNC router needs a path to follow, not a colour value per pixel, and a printer producing anything larger than the source resolution needs geometry rather than pixels. The engine here is VTracer, compiled from Rust to WebAssembly, running on your own machine.

What is the actual difference between raster and vector?

A raster stores a colour for every pixel and degrades when enlarged. A vector stores shapes as coordinates and curves, so it renders sharp at any size and each shape stays individually editable.

Is this the same as Image Trace in Illustrator?

Same family of technique, different engine. This runs VTracer locally in your browser instead of on your desktop, and the output is plain SVG that Illustrator opens normally.

Can I use the output for CNC or laser work?

Yes — SVG imports into LightBurn, Glowforge and most CAM front-ends. Always confirm units and scale after importing, since SVG carries no physical dimensions of its own.

How do I reduce the number of nodes?

Raise Simplify in Advanced options, and lower Colour precision so fewer separate regions are generated in the first place. Fewer regions means fewer paths and fewer nodes.

Why is this tool different?

🛡️ Absolute privacy

No server at all — your images are processed in your browser via WebAssembly and never uploaded anywhere. Go offline and try it.

⚙️ Professional engine

The same tracing technology used in advanced design tools, running right in your browser with nothing to install.

✍️ Great with lettering

Excellent results with logos and calligraphy — including Arabic script — every stroke traced as clean, precise paths.

∞ Actually free

No signup, no conversion limits, no watermark — forever.

In short

12pixa converts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP images into SVG vector files.

The tracing engine runs entirely inside the browser, so images are never uploaded to a server.

It is free and unlimited: no account, no watermark, and no cap on conversions, including commercial use.

Output is standard SVG that opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and cutting software such as Cricut Design Space.

Logos, lettering and line art give the best results; photographs become flat, poster-like art rather than an identical copy.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. You can go offline after the page loads and the tool keeps working normally.

What’s the difference between SVG and a regular image?

An SVG is a vector: scale it to any size — a billboard or a business card — with zero quality loss, and edit its colors and paths in design apps like Illustrator.

Does it work with Arabic calligraphy?

Yes, beautifully — letters, diacritics and ornaments are traced as precise, editable paths ready for print at any size.

Do photos convert into an identical vector?

Realistic photos become a flat poster-art style — no technology in the world turns a photo into an identical vector, because vectors are by nature color regions and paths.

How is this different from Vector Magic?

Vector Magic is paid and uploads your file to its servers. 12pixa is free, unlimited, and the tracing engine runs inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device. Quality is close but not identical — try both on the same image and compare.

Does it really work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the engine is already in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet and keep converting — nothing is sent anywhere.

What image resolution should I use?

Sharper is better. Aim for at least 1000px on the longest side, with clean edges and a plain background. Heavily compressed or tiny images make the tracer follow compression noise instead of real edges, which produces jagged paths.

Why is my SVG file bigger than the original image?

Because each shape is stored as a mathematical path. Photos and gradients produce thousands of paths. For a smaller file, use the Logo / Text preset, lower Color precision, or raise Simplify in Advanced options.

Can I edit the colors before downloading?

Yes. After converting, the palette lists every color layer. Click a swatch to recolour it — shading is preserved — or hide a layer to drop it entirely, such as removing a background before export.

Can I use the SVG files for Cricut or laser cutting?

Yes. The output is standard SVG that imports into Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, and laser software. Use the Logo / Text preset for the cleanest cut paths, and remove the background layer first.

Do I own the converted files? Is there a watermark?

The file is yours — it is created on your device and never uploaded. No watermark, no account, no limit on how many you convert or what you use them for, commercial work included.

Which file formats can I convert?

PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP. You can also paste an image directly with Ctrl+V. Output is always SVG, which opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma and any modern browser.
